Ecoterres
Ecoterres is the environmental contractor in the DEME Group, focused on markets in the Walloon and Brussels regions of Belgium and in northern France. The scope of activities and the applied techniques are similar to those of other DEME environmental companies. Ecoterres is deeply embedded in its geographic area, networking with public authorities and clients - yet the company is fully taking advantage of its integration in a world spanning Group that has both specialized plant and 150 years of experience in dealing with earth moving.
Ecoterres was established in 1990 and is a 50% subsidiary of DEME. The company is now a full subsidiary of Ecoterres Holding SA. The main shareholders of Ecoterres Holding are DEME (75%) and Ecotech Finance SA (25%).
The company is specialized in remediation of soil and groundwater, and in the environmentally safe construction of landfills and dumps for domestic or industrial waste. Ecoterres is also operating a 150,.000 m3 silt storage site in Tubize, Belgium. An Ecoterres subsidiary, “Intervention Dépollution”, is involved in urgent decontamination operations in Belgium.
Realisations of Ecoterres include the sanitation of a railway marshalling yard, the remediation of numerous redundant gas stations and depots, clean-up of toxic waste, selective excavation and in-situ clean-up of polluted soil, and the construction of several industrial waste disposal sites.
Within the context of the Sedisol partnership – between Ecoterres, SPAQuE and Port Autonome de Charleroi – solutions to the problem of contaminated sediments in Wallonia’s rivers and channels were explored. Sedisol now has a licence for the application of “Novosol”, a high performance stabilisation technique patented by Solvay.
In France, Ecoterres has merged all its silt and soil treatment activities with the French specialist company Extract under the banner of the 50/50 joint company Extract-Ecoterres SA.
