C-Power

To date, C-Power is the only offshore windfarm in Belgian waters to win full authorisation.

The project consists of 60 turbines (of 5 MW) to be installed on the Thornton Bank, 30 km offshore the Belgian coast. Water depths range from 12m. to 24.5 m. C-Power is the largest offshore windfarm of its kind in the world and, as such, it has shifted the boundaries for technological evolution in this market.

Soil investigation and all preliminary engineering was carried out in 2006 The design was finalised by the owner’s engineer (JV Technum-Tractebel, ELSAM, Sogreah) and certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

DEME was selected as the marine contractor, responsible for all offshore construction works.

The detailed engineering is being developed by COWI.

Implementation of phase 1 (6 turbines) started in May 2007 with the construction of the 6 mega-Gravity Based Foundations (GBF) onshore in Ostend. The offshore works will start in April 2008 and will be completed for the first six turbines end September 2008. The first offshore energy production is expected by October 2008.
