Why did you choose DEME?

When I graduated as an engineer in 2007, my choice for DEME was an obvious one. DEME fitted completely into the picture I had created of my future employer during my period of study: A Belgian company with projects throughout the world and an excellent international reputation. I believed that working for that kind of company would offer a lot of possibilities. Moreover, DEME is in full expansion, which enables personal growth within the company.
Not having a hydraulic engineering background is no problem: this is largely compensated with flexibility and eagerness to learn. This flexibility is rewarded with an attractive remuneration and beneficial conditions, an additional plus.
I also sensed very soon that the social aspect at DEME was right: a flexible group of people with a strong sense of team spirit. My job application illustrates this: no endless assessments, just a few talks with future colleagues in order to determine whether ‘the click’ was there and to work out which function I would feel the most comfortable in.

What do you like about your job?

Already during my period of study, I realised that I did not want an exclusively technical job. When I was proposed to work at the Masterdesk I immediately accepted. At this department, we establish budgets for future projects throughout the world. This function combines technical and commercial aspects: On the one hand, we take a look at which methods are technically feasible for executing a project. On the other hand, we also have to work out how we can sell this to the customer from a commercial point of view: A perfect balance for someone like me.
An additional plus are the contacts you make within the company. In our job, we come into contact with various departments, which means that you gain, in a short period of time, a clear insight in the ins and outs of the company and that you know people everywhere.
What I like in particular is the variety within my function. Every project is different, which means that with every new project new aspects come up: each time you learn something. And if you don’t have enough knowledge about a particular subject, you can follow one of the trainings to expand your knowledge.

Would you recommend DEME to friends and acquaintances? Why?

Certainly, this company offers something for everyone. Whether you want to go abroad in order to gather international experience or work from head office to support the sites abroad, everything is possible. DEME offers attractive perspectives for the future. And maybe the most important thing is that the atmosphere within the company is very good: e.g. if you have a problem, there is always someone to help you find a solution.
