Why did you choose DEME?

There are many reasons why I have chosen to work for DEME. The main reason can be summarised in two words: “Working abroad”!
When I was 16, I visited my parents’ friends who lived in Oman. It took 15 days to adopt to their way of life. By the end of my holidays, I knew that I wanted to live abroad and meet other cultures! Discovering new cultures, new languages and new people is a true enrichment to me.
However, even though I was convinced I wanted to live abroad, I was still tied to the people I like in Belgium. That’s why the two months on-one month off principle was another argument to choose for DEME.

What do you like about your job?

Where dredging jobs are concerned, there is one thing I really like to observe and to learn from: the difference in complexity between the principles on the one hand and the way to achieve a project on the other. The principles are often simple; they are a question of “pipes and connections”. But the way to apply the principles is something different: the machines are very impressive and complicated at the same time.
Something else I like about DEME in general, apart from the job itself, is the entire atmosphere surrounding it. I can’t really say whether I’m “working” or “living” abroad for DEME, because the line between these two is very thin. I’m enjoying both of them, and I like the fact that they get intermingled in my life abroad!
Finally, a small detail which makes me like my job even more is the attraction of working next to the sea. I’ve always liked the feeling of freedom the sea gives: I enjoy it every day.

Would you recommend DEME to friends and acquaintances? Why?

For sure I would! I would recommend DEME to all people who need new challenges and discovery.
