General Information

Jurong Island is located in the southwest corner of the island of Singapore.

The government of Singapore decided to create a major oil and chemical platform in Singapore by enlarging seven existing islands to form one Jurong island.

 

Description of the works

The project was basically a reclamation contract.
This contract increased the land area of Singapore with 135 ha.

The contract was completed in 18 months.

The 10 mio m3 of sand, needed to create the 135 ha of reclamation, was brought in by large trailing suction hopper dredgers from sand sources in Indonesian waters.

Scope of Works :

In order to execute the reclamation, following works have been performed:

  • construction of sand keys
  • construction of general reclamation
  • slope trimming
  • levelling and compaction of reclamation.
  • surveys
  • protection of existing structures
