General Information

Jurong Island is located in the southwest corner of the island of Singapore.

The government of Singapore decided to create a major oil and chemical platform in Singapore by enlarging seven existing islands to form one Jurong island.

Description of the works

The project was basically a reclamation contract.
This contract increased the land area of Singapore with 135 ha.

The contract was completed in 18 months.

The 10 mio m³ of sand, needed to create the 135 ha of reclamation, was brought in by large trailing suction hopper dredgers from sand sources in Indonesian waters.

Scope of Works :

In order to execute the reclamation, following works have been performed:

• construction of sand keys
• construction of general reclamation
• slope trimming
• levelling and compaction of reclamation.
• surveys
• protection of existing structures
