General Information

Jurong Island and the Tuas Peninsula are located in the southwest corner of the island of Singapore.

The government of Singapore decided to create a major oil and chemical platform in Singapore by linking up seven existing islands to one Jurong island.
This contract involves an enlargement of Jurong Island.
Also an extension to the Tuas Peninsula forms part of the same reclamation contract.

Description of the works

The project Is basically a reclamation contract.
Linking the Jurong islands and developing the industrial area in Tuas requires the reclamation of 812 ha.

The 102 mio m³ of sand, was brought in by large trailing suction hopper dredgers from sand sources in Indonesian waters.

The shore protection works were carried out by Jurong & Tuas Rock Contractors, a joint venture between Koon-Zinkon and Dredging International Asia Pacific.
The shore protection, a 52 mio US$ sub-contract of the huge Jurong and Tuas reclamation programme involved protection over 800 ha of sand from erosion along nearly 17 km of newly established shoreline. This involved profiling the reclaimed slopes, covering them with geofabric and placing two layers of rock.
