General Information

Jurong Island is located in the southwest corner of the island of Singapore.

The government of Singapore decided to create a major oil and chemical platform in Singapore by linking up seven existing islands to one Jurong island.
This contract creates an- other extension to the Jurong Island.

 

Description of the works

The project was basically a reclamation contract.
Jurong Island increased the land area of Singapore with 980 ha.

The Jurong island contract was to be completed in 44 months.
The 220 mio m3 of sand, needed to create the 980 ha of reclamation, was brought in by large trailing suction hopper dredgers from sand sources in Indonesian and Malaysian waters.
The 10 mio m3 of mud and clay, dredged in the basin and sandkey trenches, was dumped by barges in the new reclamation areas.

Scope of Works :

In order to execute the reclamation, following works have been performed:

  • Dredging of basin
  • dredging of sandkey trenches
  • construction of sandkeys
  • construction of general reclamation
  • slope trimming
  • construction of armour stone slope protection (11 km)
  • levelling and compaction of reclamation.
  • drainage works
  • soil testing
  • surveys
  • protection of existing structures
